LEI stands for Local Erasmus Initiative and is an independent student group at Greifswald University that cooperates closely with the Academic International Office (AAA).
In October 2006 a bunch of students followed the invitation of the AAA to hear something about the opportunity of being an active member of Greifswald´s ERASMUS-scene. These students had all just returned from a studying period abroad themselves and they all had been “infected” by the ERASMUS-virus. Thus the enthusiasm was high and LEI was founded on Nov 2nd 2006.
Since May 24th 2007 LEI is a “nicht eingetragener Verein“ – not registered association-, which means in short that we have an official status, but we don´t have to pay for it. What is more, we are member of ESN (Erasmus Student Network) Germany and ESN International, which makes us part of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
LEI Greifswald consists of more or less 20 students from all kinds of faculties. We always welcome new members, who want to join us and support our work. Once a week we meet at the conference room on the 3rd floor of the AStA building and discuss the tasks and ideas concerning the upcoming events. In the course of a hot debate and exhausting brainstorming it may occur that we set out to cool down and recover in a nearby pub afterwards.
